🦬 Emotional Beast Mode
There have been times in my life when I’ve faced headwinds so strong, that they caused me to go through intense emotional metamorphosis. I went from being utterly distraught to so intensely focused on changing my life and getting my shit together that I literally shocked myself with my own mental power and emotional fortitude.
The beast had awakened.
When I hear the term “beast mode,” it’s typically in the context of athletes getting into a flow state of intense focus and determination in order to push themselves to work out or compete at a high level. But what about intense focus and determination to feel at a high level? Is emotional beast mode even a thing?
I asked AI to help me out and here’s what my favorite robot said:
When someone is said to be in "beast mode," they are pushing themselves to their limits and giving everything they have to achieve their goals.
It's similar to being in a state of flow, where someone is completely absorbed in what they are doing and can perform at their highest level.
Essentially, it's a mindset that allows someone to tap into their inner strength and push past their limitations.
Hmm… I don’t see anything here that says beast mode can only be used to describe a physical state of being. Therefore emotional beast mode is totally possible! But what does it even look like?
5 signs that you’re in emotional beast mode
When you’re in emotional beast mode, you’re in the “feels by instinct” zone—i.e. a heightened state of emotional strength, resilience, and determination. Your pistons are firing in each of these areas:
Resilience
Positivity
Empowered control
Growth
Self-compassion
As a teenager, I competed in the Junior Olympic sports of Taekwondo 🇰🇷 and road cycling 🚴. Because I competed at a high level, I had to find my “flow state” quickly in a fight or a ride (much quicker in a fight; otherwise, I would have gotten my ass kicked).
In my flow state:
I was resilient to pain and suffering was fuel
I had to remain positive that I could overcome even my most fearsome opponents
I managed my fear and made controlled, yet instantaneous, choices based on muscle memory
I knew that there were always opportunities for growth and improvement with practice and commitment
When I lost, I compassionately recognized that it wasn’t because I was worthless or bad—it was because the other person had practiced more effectively and performed better
Here’s how these thought patterns in flow state translate to emotional beast mode.
💪 Emotional resilience
When in emotional beast mode, you possess the ability to bounce back quickly from setbacks and difficulties. You have a strong capacity to handle and navigate intense emotions without becoming overwhelmed.
➕ Positive mindset
Emotional beast mode involves maintaining a positive outlook, even in the face of adversity. You possess a strong belief in your ability to overcome challenges and find solutions.
🚀 Empowered control
In emotional beast mode, you feel empowered and in control of your emotions. You are determined to take charge of your emotional well-being and refuse to let negativity or external factors dictate your state of mind.
🌱 Emotional growth
Being in emotional beast mode involves actively seeking personal growth and development. You are open to learning from difficult emotions and using them as opportunities for self-improvement.
❤️ Self-compassion
While in emotional beast mode, you prioritize self-care and self-compassion. You understand the importance of taking care of your emotional needs and are mindful of your own well-being.
Remember, emotional beasts don’t suppress or ignore their emotions. Quite the opposite, they harness emotional strength and resilience to face challenges, grow from experiences, and maintain a positive and empowered mindset.
(2) Myth of the Day
Beast mode sounds like I want to rip someone’s head off.
Ok, maybe it’s not a myth. A lot of fighters do want to tear heads off in beast mode. But that doesn’t have to be you! You can call it:
Flow state
In the zone
Mindfulness
The sweet spot
Regardless, the terms all describe a state of optimal functioning and engagement.
(3) Action Item
