Good evening!
Welcome to The Daily Self Newsletter. This is a twice-weekly newsletter and I missed last Friday’s due to illness. I tend to get sick with some kind of nasty bug every 6 months, which—in my opinion—is too often for someone who supposedly prioritizes his own self-care and writes a self-care-focused newsletter. So let’s dig into that.
One thing for you to think about
I’ve been wondering lately if I attract sickness. I lead a pretty healthy life: I exercise, eat a balanced diet, drink lots of water, wash my hands, sleep 7-8 hours a night, and have no red flags in my lab reports. So what’s causing the semi-annual sickies?
The idea that a person can energetically attract sickness is a common belief in many alternative and holistic healing approaches. It is based on the principles of energy medicine, which suggest that imbalances or blockages in a person's energy field can lead to physical, emotional, or spiritual illness.
Playing the devil’s advocate: while studies have shown that stress and negative emotions can impact physical health, no clear evidence suggests that a person's "vibrations" or "energy" can attract illness.
That being said, I wonder what would happen if I made visualizing health a priority every morning in my meditation practice.
Would maintaining that positive mindset focused on good health actually elevate my energy in a way that may prevent illness?
Would cultivating a daily practice of vibrational medicine help me put up a protective shield to fend off the sickies?
I think the answer here is clear: there’s no harm in trying.
Discovery: Every day is an opportunity to learn more about yourself and others. Reflect on these ideas and consider sharing.
One thing for you to ask yourself
If you find yourself getting sick or injured more than most people, is there something lurking behind that which is not diagnosable/treatable by Western medicine? For example, I relied on Western medicine to repair my torn meniscus last December, but for my ongoing battles with viruses every six months, there is no clear Western diagnosis or treatment. So, in cases like these, is it time to look beyond the physical, and into the metaphysical layer?
Ideation: Use these questions as journaling prompts.
One thing for you to try
I don’t know if analyzing my energy, massaging my vibrational frequency, and exploring the metaphysical is the answer… but it’s worth a try. I’ve been lying on the couch for the last 6 days, and doing something about it is a whole lot more productive than waiting for it to happen again. And that’s what this newsletter is all about—how to stretch your mind and test yourself daily to optimize your life. If you find yourself in a similar situation, I hope you’ll try massaging your vibrational frequency too.
Experiment: Growth happens when you step outside of your comfort zone and make brave choices. Reply to this email or leave a comment and let me know how it went.
