Good evening!
So, I’m writing this from another plane. But this time it’s going to Arizona, not Iceland. Lil’ different experience. And the topic that I’m writing about today is very close to my heart.
One thing for you to think about
People will attempt to invalidate your identity—or parts of it—over the course of your life. This will leave you feeling empty inside, like your identity is wrong, bad, or less than theirs.
Know that your identity is always valid.
You will always be more than, never less than, the people who invalidate you.
Every single molecule of who you are is valid, real, and unique; and there is no one else in the entire world that is made like you are. Even if you have an identical twin, the molecules in your brains are different.
You do not have to be what anyone else says you should be. Be the person you are.
Discovery: Every day is an opportunity to learn more about yourself and others. Reflect on these ideas and consider sharing.
One thing for you to ask yourself
What can you do to validate yourself when someone (or someones) are trying to invalidate you? What power can you draw from inside of yourself to be your own champion?
Ideation: Use these questions as journaling prompts.
One thing for you to try
Many of us have multiple identities, including those related to gender, sex, profession, family, hobbies, and more. Pick one of your identities and validate yourself in front of a mirror, in the morning and in the evening. Don’t be shy with your self-validations.
Remember, you do not have to be what anyone else says you should be. You do not have to be anybody but the person you are.
Experiment: Growth happens when you step outside of your comfort zone and make brave choices. Reply to this email or leave a comment and let me know how it went.
